(More customer reviews)I initially got interested in the button style mills when I switched from standard table salt to kosher salt. Kosher salt tastes better and is generally more useful for cooking. The problem is it does not work with any shaker I know. These mills are brilliant for dispensing a consistent amount of finely ground salt with an easy push of your thumb. After using it in the kitchen for a year or so I bought a couple more, one for black pepper and one for white pepper. All three are never far out of my reach when I am cooking. They are also easily attractive enough to be used for table service. The one I have used for over a year shows no appreciable signs of wear so I know it is rugged. I use mine mostly for kosher salt, but I have no doubt it would handle coarser salts as well.
